Serendipity on the Square
109 So. 4th Street
M-F 10-5 and Sat 10-2
Note: The Holland building is a true treasure. Its current
exterior belies the beauty within. Built somewhere
between 1905 an 1910 the defining feature of this
building is its three-story atrium capped with one
huge skylight. Suspended balconies completely
encircle the second and third floors. The building
was an engineering marvel with all balconies
suspended by steel rods from gigantic roof beams
encased in ornate columns. Many of the original
light fixtures still remain. The grand staircase was
removed during the 1960’s but could easily be grand
once again. There are many hidden treasures downtown
just waiting to be discovered. |
